Mac West's bio
In a career spanning three decades in the advertising production industry, as an agency producer, post-production company owner, executive producer and production consultant for broadcast and digital, Mac's experiences have ranged widely across the commercial production field.
Following college, Mac started out as a broadcast engineering assistant and worked his way up to telecine operator (film to tape) at Devlin Productions in New York City. In 1980, Mac jumped over to the advertising agency side and went to work in BBDO NY’s TV production department; a department that his father had helmed as the first TV chief some twenty-eight years earlier. For many years he produced test productions with Alphonse Normandia, a much loved agency legend. Funny story that...
During his nineteen years at BBDO NY, Mac produced for Apple, Bayer, Best Foods, Campbell's, Chrysler, CNBC, DuPont, FedEx, Frito Lay, General Electric, Gillette, Häagen‐Dazs, HBO, Pepsi, Pizza Hut, Tambrands, Unilever, US Navy, Visa and many others.
In 2000, Mac seized a unique opportunity; he envisioned, organized, negotiated and executed a leveraged buyout of a group of NYC post‐production companies. In the process he became Founding Partner, President & Executive Producer of Steel Rose Editorial, Splash Design and Howling Trout Audio. His responsibilities were managing all aspects of this 35 employee, integrated, commercial post-production operation. In their first year of operations they achieved almost $7MM in sales, despite 9/11.
Striking out from BBDO in 1999, Mac joined Madison Advertising Management as a production consultant and partner. There he managed projects for Unilever, Pfizer, Merck, Priceline.com and the United States Government (ONDCP).
In 2008, Mac joined Mavis and Company, an advertising consultancy, as production consultant and was named Director of Operations ‐ Broadcast & Digital Production. There he consulted on projects for Gorton’s, Heineken México – (Bohemia, Carta Blanca, Dos Equis, Heineken, Indio, Sol, Superior & Tecate), MasterCard, Nestlé Waters, Pfizer – (Celebrex, Chantix, Lipitor, Lyrica, Premarin, Prevnar, Pristiq, Spiriva, Toviaz & Viagra), Scott’s Miracle Gro, Sun Products – (ALL, Snuggle & Wisk) and Unilever – (Axe, Becel, Bertolli, Breyers, Caress, Country Crock, Degree, Dove, Hellmann’s, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter, Klondike, Knorr, Lever 2000, Lipton, Magnum, PF Chang’s, Pond’s, Popsicle, Ragu, Slim Fast, Suave, Vaseline & Wishbone)
In 2014, Mac joined MCA, MurphyCobb & Associates, as Managing Partner, Americas. MCA is a London based, global consultancy. He managed five reports, was responsible for ensuring consulting excellence, timely and accurate client reporting, value-add initiatives and general support for all clients. He had direct P & L responsibility for organic growth and new business growth. Clients included: AB–InBev, Reckitt Benckiser, US Postal Service, Tyson, BP, Coty, Galderma and many other global advertisers.
In 2015 Mac resumed work via West & Company (established in 2003) - supervising, managing and producing a wide variety of advertising management, broadcast, digital, print and experiential projects. West & Company clients include global and national advertisers, global production consultancies, production and post production companies.
Mac lives in Connecticut with his wife and two children. In his spare time, he is a passionate real estate entrepreneur, gardener and sailor. In 2013, he stepped down as treasurer of his church, after six years.
